Why "Lancashire Lass"?

Yorkshire Snowman - see entry below - knows... I changed the title when linking to his site. It's all to do with the Wars of the Roses, fought in the middle ages between his county, Yorkshire (with its white rose emblem) and mine - Lancashire (with the red rose emblem). It ran from 1455 to 1485 and the House of Lancaster - my lot - won.
The rivalry has remained ever since, turning into a friendly joke these days but revived whenever the two sides meet to play cricket. Still, if you're from Lancs, you'll consider your fellow northerner from Yorkshire to be 'from the wrong side' - i.e. the other side of the Pennines, the range of hills that separate our two counties. Plus, it's well known that Yorkshiremen are an awkward lot...
Heh, watch it, don't chuck that snowball at me...whereas we Lancashire girls ('lass' = 'girl') are such gentle, civilised types. See 'Broken glass'.
