10. I love England. I don't really like Amsterdam. The place wreaks of weed. I'm perpetually homesick but not sure if I could ever settle in England again. Or, come to think of it, anywhere else.
11. It's the land itself I love in England first and foremost. Plus the people and the sense of humour. The way of life has always puzzled me. Too many glass ceilings, indirect, ambiguous communication, taboos around simple, friendly bodily contact, too much potential for excrutiating loneliness. But I love England. It's still home.
12. I don't drink coffee but I love the aroma. Used to drink capuchino or 'mélange' in Vienna. Stopped drinking coffee when I was in New Zealand because it gives me a high followed by a crashing low. Pity, apparently they have great coffee in Holland.

I spent the better part of two decades hating England. I hated living there, growing up there, just having to be there!. At every opportunity I told anyone who would listen that I was Canadian and would be returning "home" at my earliest opportunity. I am surprised in hindsight someone didn't throw me in a row boat, point me westward and tell me to start rowing. I finally made good my escape in 1988...and ironically I have been missing "home" like mad ever since. I can so totally relate.
