We're off up north east to Groningen, not far from Germany, today to see one of Bud's old student friends who rang him out of the blue a week ago. They haven't seen each other for 22 years. Lost touch while having kids and now the friend's tracked him down via the electoral roll! It'll take us a couple of hours to get up there and it looks like it's going to be a grey, wet ride; the sunshine ended yesterday. Pity, as the friends live out in the country. Yes, it will be flat, flat and flat all the way up there...
Islands Below the Wind
Just a note on the title, for those who haven't checked in here in the past couple of days. Scroll down to the entry on 'Hurricane or Earthquake'. There I mention Aruba, a little island above Venezuela. A. and neighbouring island Curacao and Bonaire are known in Dutch as the 'Benedenwindse eilanden' - literally translated 'islands below the wind'. And that's because the hurricanes usually pass by much further north, near to the other Dutch Caribbean islands known as the 'Bovenwindse eilanden' - 'islands above the wind'. So now you know!
