Hello from Paradise... The sun's shining now and there's no sign of the rain that pounded on the corrugated roof of our little apartment last night. I'm in the Aruban national library, sitting between two Aruban schoolboys. I can read this text but I'm not sure you'll be able to - it turns up as heiroglyphics. My Buddy is next door in the Aruban archive, looking up photos from the days of the Lago oil company. We've just trailed through all their calendars, showing the unspoilt Aruba of 40 years ago. It looked like paradise then...
Don't get me wrong. This is a lovely island. But it is just a touch more built up than when Buddy left for Holland.
We've just whizzed up to the California Lighthouse for lunch-with-a-view. That felt good - to be doing the touristy things. It's a great view up there; you can see both sides of the island. (It's only six miles wide and nineteen miles long.) You also see white, white, beaches, sparkling aquamarine sea and jeeps and four-wheel drives bumping along over the rocks and between the divi divi trees that are bent over by the trade winds. Moments like that I really enjoy.
Yesterday was also great. We went to The Promenade restaurant in San Nicolas and ate one delicious dish after another for three full hours, serenaded by a local with a guitar and keyboard. And last night we got a takeaway from a Suranimese place where there was a festival going on (to celebrate their Independence Day). There was good music and dancing - all done by the locals. I like that. They know how to celebrate life here.

You're having a life experience, jj my dear, so keep on enjoying it! It's all part of the process of putting things in perspective. Look forward to seeing the pics. Oh, and a house does not have to be occupied 365 for it to be called "home". It can also fill up a place in a person's heart so they can still be happy elsewhere. "Congo"
Thanks for those wise words, Congo. Once again, you're spot on - just the words I need to hear!
