Can this end well?

Watching the TV pics of the scenes at Ramallah, I realise how naive it was to suggest that it wasn't fair to stop the Palestinians from the Gaza Strip attending. Police can't handle the crowds that have come in from Ramallah itself. Feels like I'm watching a disaster in the making...
What's going through my mind, though, too, is that around the Middle East, friends and former colleagues of mine will be glued to the TV screen, watching these same pictures. It's like we're meeting again, silently, via the box.

Astonishingly, it did end reasonably well. Inevitably, there were some casualties. But that they managed to get the body from the helicopter into the ground is quite an achievement.

Looked like any typical Gaza funeral to me. Hopefully that is the end of the chaos and cooler heads will now prevail. Felt strange watching it alone, and, yes, it did make me think of former colleagues doing just the same thing. The ME is in our blood. "Congo"

Hope so too, though must admit that feels like wishful thinking... Suppose that's the fate of the Middle East - too many damned foreigners who feel a connection to the place...
