For weeks, I've been watching an unknown blogger on a Dutch server turn up in my site stats time after time. He or she spends more time on my blog than anyone else. It's made me nervous because that visitor never leaves a message. I posted a request for any passers-by to speak up. Several of you kindly did. But not the mystery visitor. He/she remained silent.
The visits often coincided with my own. It must be my friend Cleo, I thought, one of the few in Amsterdam to whom I've given the address. The visits started around the time she said she was looking at my site.
I checked the IP number. Always the same. What could this person be doing on my blog? Are they downloading it and turning it into a book? Copying it? Setting up a dossier on me? Is it someone from my work who's found out who I am? Is it Cleo or another friend in Holland?
No.
This morning I checked this computer's IP number and discovered that the silent watcher is me.
