The bag story

This is my bag. I use it to carry books to and from work. The idea is that I'll read them on the train but I usually don't. I just carry them around.

It's a rucksack, bought in the National Trust shop next to Avebury stone circle in England. It was meant to replace the little green Karrimor, foldable rucksack that went with me to New Zealand and back and has stayed with me almost ever since. (We parted company last year.) Unfortunately, the 'handle' on the Avebury NT one - you see it on the photo - frayed in the first week and the inside of the bag has a patch of mould left behind by an orange that got lost somewhere in the bottom.

I like this bag because of the striking design and the fact that it's from the National Trust shop in a lovely English village. But it's never really replaced the little green rucksack. That one only started fraying after seven years.

Do you have favourite things that feel like old friends? Like coats, bags etc, I mean...
