Heh, they speak Papiamento here too. In the metro. I was out at lunchtime and just overheard two people babbling away in it. It was too fast for me to follow but I did realise what language it was. Normally, it would have passed me by. A girl using the platform telephone was also speaking in it.
The great thing about this little language is that it has a wonderfully simple grammatical system. (In that sense, it's quite like Chinese, would you believe.) It's accessible for English, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch speakers. And by some fluke of history - a mystery still not worked out fully - it's very similar to the lingo spoken in Cap Verde, Africa.
If we ever get tired of English, we could try Papiamento as a world language instead...
