Ever wondered why your Christmas turkey's called a turkey? A friend has just sent me an e-mail with a lovely story from Giancarlo Casale on how the bird got its name. Via Google, I find that another blogger has already posted the story in full, so take a look: Gobble Gobble.
The only details not included in that version are Sr Casale's details. According to my informants, he's PhD in History & MES, doing/has done a dissteration on 'Ottoman-Portuguese Relations and the SixteenthCentury Origins of Globalization' at HarvardUniversity Centerfor Middle Eastern Studies and is also one of the editors of the "Harvard Middle Eastern and Islamic Review".
